I think that I can categorize liquify tool to Photoshop Basics because using liquify tool is so simple and you can do with this tool huge things like editing body shape also you will use this tool during portrait retouching or some type of photo manipulation.

***Video Tutorial on Page 2***

**Please note that video tutorial is not full body retouch tutorial. Purpose of this video tutorial is just to show you each of liquify tool.**

All you need to do is:
1. Go to Filter-> Liquify
2. Choose one of the brushes in menu on left:

Forward Warp tool  P Warp Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial - Pushes pixels forward as you drag.

Reconstruct tool  P Reconstruct Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial - Reverses the distortion you’ve already added, as you hold down the mouse button and drag.

Twirl Clockwise tool  P TwirlCW Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial - Rotates pixels clockwise as you hold down the mouse button or drag. To twirl pixels counterclockwise, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) as you hold down the mouse button or drag.

Pucker tool  P Pucker Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial - Moves pixels toward the center of the brush area as you hold down the mouse button or drag.

Bloat tool  P Bloat Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial -  Moves pixels away from the center of the brush area as you hold down the mouse button or drag.

Push Left tool  P ShiftPixels Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial - Moves pixels to the left when you drag the tool straight up (pixels move to the right if you drag down). You can also drag clockwise around an object to increase its size, or drag counterclockwise to decrease its size. To push pixels right when you drag straight up (or to move pixels left when you drag down), hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) as you drag.

Using the Freeze Mask tool - Select the Freeze Mask tool P Freeze Lg N Using Liquify Tool in Photoshop| Body shaping tutorial and drag over the area you want to protect. By freezing areas of the preview image, you protect those areas from changes.

3. Set liquify brush in menu on right side:

Brush Size - Sets the width of the brush you’ll use to distort the image.

Brush Density - Controls how a brush feathers at the edge. An effect is strongest in the center of the brush and lighter at the edge.

Brush Pressure - Sets the speed at which distortions are made when you drag a tool in the preview image. Using a low brush pressure makes changes occur more slowly, so it’s easier to stop them at exactly the right moment.

Brush Rate - Sets the speed at which distortions are applied when you keep a tool (such as the Twirl tool) stationary in the preview image. The higher the setting, the greater the speed at which distortions are applied.

In this last one tutorial from Basic Tools tutorials I will describe following tools: Content-Aware Move Tool, Red Eye Tool, Dodge and Burn Tool and finally Pen Tool.

Content-Aware Move Tool

Content-Aware Move tool is tool with which you can select and move a part of a picture. The image is recomposed and the hole left behind is filled using matching elements from the picture. You do not need to carry out intensive edits involving layers and complex selections.

You can use the Content-Aware Move tool in two modes wich you can choose in this menu:

content aware move tool Other tools

  • Move mode - place objects in different locations (most effectively when the background remains similar).
  • Extend mode - expand or contract objects such as hair, trees, or buildings. To best extend architectural objects, use photos shot on a parallel plane, rather than at an angle.

Red Eye Tool

Bad effect of photos which have been taken with help of flash is that you very often get photos with burned red eyes. This effect happens when the light from the camera flash reflects off the subject’s retina. It can make for a disturbingly demonic image.

To remove it simply select the Red Eye Tool, then click-drag on the image to draw a box around the red eye… you may need to click-drag a couple times to get the entire eye.

Dodge and Burn Tool

In the simplicity these two tools do this:

  • Dodge – Lightens pixels where you paint.
  • Burn – Darkens pixels where you paint.

You can set which tones will be affected:

  • When set to highlights, only the lightest areas are affected.
  • When set to shadows, only the darkest areas are affected.
  • When set to midtones, only the middle tones are affected.

Pen Tool

In my videotutorial is decribed only how to select thing from image by drawing a path around your image. This tool has other features as well but each feature will be shown in other tutorials because area where you can use Pen tool is very wide.

If you are novice in Photoshop these tutorials dedicated to basic Photoshop tools will help you to understand how to use them.In this tutorial I will show you how to use quick selecting tools in the sidebar on left side of screen.

You can find there these basic selecting tools:

1. Rectangular Marquee tool – with right click on this tool you will get more options like Elliptical Marquee tool (mostly I use only these two from Marquee tools), Single Row Marquee tool and Single Column Marquee tool.

2. Lasso tool – with right click you can get more options as in previous case: Polygonal Lasso tool and very usefull Magnetic Lasso tool.

3. Quick selection and Magic Wand tool.
