I will use two methods for this effect. First one is to use Liquify tool and the second one is to use Transform – Warp tool. Just pick one which suits you more.

First step is to Duplicate layer (shortcut ctrl+j):

Now we need to delete background around the baby so select Pen tool and start selecting with pen tool like is shown on this screenshot:

After that end the “pen circle”:

With right mouse click choose Make selection and click OK.

First at all you need to duplicate layer in Photoshop layer menu with shortcut ctrl + j.

After this step go to Filter -> Stylize -> Find Edges. This filter will help you to find edges on the picture and it will remove almost all colors from the picture.

To remove all colors you need to go to Images -> Adjustments -> Desaturate

If you want to have stronger sketch effect use filter Find Edges one more time.

For the transition between sketch and original image follow these steps:

1. Add white layer mask to sketch layer

2. Select gradient tool with linear gradient and foreground to background options.

3. Click and drag mouse on the layer mask

Adjustments: Hue/saturation

and layers.

You will get final image with these steps:

1. cut face from picture by using pen tool which I prefer to use in this case (but you can use other selecting tools as I mentioned in my basic tools tutorial - http://photoshoptutorials.eu/selecting-tools)

2. create new background where you will put the cut face but first at all fill the new background with color by using gradient tool with set radial gradient

3. use adjustments layer to – hue/saturation to match face color with background color a bit

4. remove eyes, nose and mouth from duplicated face layer using clone stamp tool and healing brush tool – basic tools tutorial - http://photoshoptutorials.eu/retouching-tools

5. make slices from face layer and duplicated face layer using lasso tool

6. add shadows to duplicated face layer using burn tool – do this in two steps – have selected midtones, opacity 100% and smaller brush… in second step midtones, opacity 50% and bigger brush.
